There are many organisations that will help the elderly if they find themselves in financial difficulty. Some offer grants for emergencies or equipment to aid daily living and some will offer a small income in order to achieve an acceptable and comfortable standard of living. There are also many organisations that have volunteers to provide support and friendship in order to combat social isolation and allow the elderly to hold on to their precious independence.
Marie Curie Cancer Care was established in 1948 - the same year as the NHS. More than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals help provide care for terminally ill patients in the community and in our hospices, along with support for their families. This year we expect to provide care to more than 31,000 people with cancer and other terminal illnesses.
Counsel and Care is the national charity working with older people, their families and carers to get the best care and support. Bob and Joceline Graham, as it was then known, established the Elderly Invalids Fund, in 1954 in response to the poor levels of care experienced by many frail older people. Today, with an ageing population where 3 out of 5 people aged 65 and over will need care, Counsel and Care is needed more than ever.
Age UK has a vision of a world in which older people flourish. We aim to improve later life for everyone through our information and advice, campaigns, products, training and research. Growing older doesn’t come with a manual, so if you need information or advice on anything from health to housing, call our free national information line on 0800 169 6565. It's open 365 days a year from 8am to 7pm.
Contact the Elderly is a national charity and organises monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for people over 75 who live alone with little or no support from family and friends. One Sunday afternoon a month volunteers use their car to take older members to and from a volunteer host’s home for tea, cake and companionship. Our hosts take it in turn to welcome the small group of older people and volunteer drivers into their home for a few hours.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.
Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser.
The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
